The Christmas Story

At Christmas time we celebrate the coming of the promised saviour, Jesus Christ, the focal point of the entire Bible.

  • Eve disobeyed God and had eaten the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. This brought sin into the world. Christ would come to defeat Satan and sin. – Genesis 3: 13-15
  • Abraham had been willing to sacrifice his son Isaac to obey God. Eventually God would send His only Son into the world to save and to bless all who would trust and obey like Abraham. – Genesis 22:15-18
  • Almost 700 years before Christ was born Isaiah gave the prophesy about how great He would be. He would be David’s greater Son. – Isaiah 9:2, 6 &7
  • God promised little Bethlehem a great place in history. – Micah 5:2
  • At the end of the Old Testament God made spoke a promise and although God was silent for the next 400 years the promise then was fulfilled. – Malachi 4:1-2
  • The birth of Jesus is announced to Mary – Luke 1: 26-33
  • The angel of the Lord appears to Joseph in a dream. – Matthew 1:18-23
  • The birth of Jesus. – Luke 2:1-7
  • The angels appear to the shepherds. – Luke 2:8-18
  • The visit of the Wise Men. – Matthew 2:1-11
  • The Word became flesh when God’s Son came to live among us. – John 1:1-5, 10-14
  • The exalted Christ’s example of humility. – Philippians 2: 5-11
